‘CBI targeting BJP-ruled states’ – BJP
New Delhi, July 25 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused the Congress-led Central government of grossly misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by targeting BJP-ruled Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
On a day BJP former Gujarat minister Amit Shah was arrested by the CBI in Sohrabuddin fake encounter, BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that the CBI was being used to target Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, while Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh was being ignored.
“Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are under CBI radar but the Andhra Pradesh angle (in the fake encounter case) is not being investigated at all as Congress is in power there,” Prasad said.
“Sohrabuddin Sheikh was a terrorist from whose premises in Indore nearly 300 AK-47s were recovered. He used to operate an inter-state gang,” he added.
“Amit Shah has already resigned and will go through the process of law. But BJP’s allegation of gross misuse of CBI by the government is too well-known,” he said.
“The entire case against Shah is based upon sweeping investigations by CBI without any legally sustainable evidence. This motivated investigation would boomerang on the Congress,” the spokesperson added.
Shah was arrested by the CBI on Sunday after he surfaced earlier on the day. He had gone untraceable since Thursday when the CBI had issued summons against Shah in the fake encounter case.
Sohrabbudin was killed in an alleged fake encounter in November, 2005.
