British national marrying Indian citizen

My-India.Net: India Forum: India Society & Culture: British national marrying Indian citizen

By Purple1711 on Thursday, August 16, 2007 - 06:35 pm: Edit Post

I am British and plan to marry my Indian fiance next year. Does anyone know if I can do any of the following?

- apply for Indian passport?
- change the name of my British passport and not need an India visa!
- if I keep my British passport, will I need to get a new India visa to return from honeymoon trip abroad?

We will be getting married in Goa, which requires a registered marriage before a church wedding, so I am hoping to do my passport changes before the honeymoon.

How long is it before I would be classed as an Indian citizen?

any help would be great, thanks

Hi, It matters a lot on what your gender is...it is advisable to keep your british passport and after marriage apply for PIO card(like the american green card). As a spouse you will definitely get it i.e. valid for 15 years you will not require visa but you will have to register for residence permit which is easy to get.
