'My Name Is Khan' to screen at Berlin film festival
17-Dec-2009

Washington, Dec 16 (IANS) The latest Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol film "My Name Is Khan" has been selected to screen at the 60th annual Berlin International Film Festival, next year, according to the festival organisers.

Directed by Karan Johar and set in the US, "My Name Is Khan" will screen at one of the oldest and most respected film festivals in the world and in a country that has a growing appetite for Indian cinema.

The Berlin International Film Festival runs from Feb 11 to 21, 2010 and will host premieres from top filmmakers from dozens of countries including the world premiere of Martin Scorsese's next film "Shutter Island" starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Both Johar and Scorsese will be debuting their fourth feature films with actors Khan and DiCaprio, respectively.

"The Competition of the 60th anniversary Berlinale will be marked by a mix of styles and genres, by exciting newcomers and renowned directors," says festival director Dieter Kosslick.

"My Name Is Khan" is set to be released in theatres in India and over 40 countries including the US, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East on Feb 12 on Valentine's Day weekend.

In North America, it will be released by Fox Searchlight Pictures which previously released "The Namesake", "Bend It Like Beckham", "Water", and "Slumdog Millionaire".

An exclusive first-look trailer for "My Name Is Khan" will air on STAR TV Wednesday, at 10:00 p.m. IST and will then be beamed across 70 countries worldwide.

In the film, Shah Rukh stars as Rizvan Khan, an unconventional hero who embarks on an incredible journey across America in order to win back the love of his life. Along the way his unique brand of goodness and humanity touches the lives of many and inspires a nation.

"My Name Is Khan" reunites Shah Rukh, named by Time magazine as "the world's biggest movie star", and Kajol for the first time in eight years. They were last seen together in "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (2001).

They have previously starred in five films together, including "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", all of which were blockbuster hits that established the pair as Bollywood's hottest on-screen couple.

The film also marks a re-teaming of Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, who most recently collaborated three years ago on "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (2006).

Over the years, Karan and Shah Rukh have enjoyed an unbelievable run at the box office, working together on such hit films as "Kal Ho Naa Ho" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham", some of the most successful Indian films at the international box office.

'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves' gets star studded premiere
12-Jan-2008

Mumbai, Jan 11 (ANI): Bollywood glitterati descended at the premiere of 'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves', a day before its release.

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor, who was present at the premier, said, "This picture is a full of masala. Everyone says that their film is different from that of others. But the promos of the film suggest that it is really different from other movies."

The film directed by E Niwas, who won awards for his movie 'Shool' in 1999, stars Amrita Rao and debut actor Nikhil Dwivedi.

'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves' introduces Nikhil on the silver screen in the lead role of Anthony Gonsalves. He plays the title character who dreams of hitting it big one day.

Niwas praised the debutant actor for his performance.

"They've done a fantastic job. As for the rest of them Mithun, Amrita, I don't think there is any need to say much on them, they are already proved actors. But Nikhil yes, the first film, he's done a fantastic job, " he said.

The film revolves around this bartender (Nikhil) who dreams of becoming an actor someday but ends up meeting a don played by Pavan Malhotra.

Unknown to him, the three brothers who own the bar are conducting illegal activities. Unfortunately one day, Anthony is witness to a brutal crime and is forced to fight for his life.

Along the way, he meets and falls in love with Amrita Arora's character, but will he survive long enough to make an honest woman out of her remains the film's mystery.

"When I saw "Love Ke Liya Kuch Bhi Karega" and "Shool" I always wanted to work with Niwas and it has been one of the most comfortable experience working with him. Niwas is very clear and very aware of what he wants to draw from his actors and what kind of performances he wants to draw from them. So, it was amazing working with him and he's going to go a long way," she said.

Along with the lead pair, the cast includes Anupam Kher, D Santosh, Hrishita Bhatt, Lilette Dubey, Mithun Chakraborty, Mukesh Tiwari, Pawan Malhotra, and Saurabh Shukla.

In an attempt to do everything right for his film, the director brings on board music wonders like Pritam and Himesh Reshammiya. He even ropes in new composer, Sachin-Jiggar for one tracks. (ANI)

My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves
05-Jan-2008

Mumbai, Jan 4 (ANI): Bollywood flick 'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves' is all set to be released in theatres across the country on January 11.

But the movie has just been kept to intrigue the audience to reach the theatres, as it has nothing to do with the old classic flick.

The movie stars Amrita Rao and debut actor Nikhil Dwivedi and is directed by E Niwas, who won awards for his well-acclaimed movie 'Shool' in 1999.

'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves' introduces Nikhil in the role of Anthony Gonsalves. He plays the title character, who dreams of hitting it big one day. He starts off, by becoming a bartender.

The film revolves around this bartender, who dreams of becoming an actor someday, but ends up meeting a don played by Pavan Malhotra.

"Like the tagline of the film need, it's a film about ordinary dreams. It's a film about an ordinary man who has extraordinary dreams. He wants to be a huge star and he is from very ordinary background. The movie is about his strife and struggle to achieve his dreams," said Nikhil.

Unknown to him, the three brothers, who own the bar, are conducting illegal activities. Unfortunately one day, Anthony is witness to a brutal crime and is forced to fight for his life.

Along the way, he meets and falls in love with Amrita (Ria in movie), but will he survive long enough to make an honest woman out of her remains the film's mystery.

"My role in this movie is of a Catholic girl, whose name is Ria. She is an assistant director in the movie. She is working with a well-acclaimed lady director. It was a great job to do a real life role. It's not a fictitious character," said Amrita.

He even ropes in new composer, Sachin-Jiggar for one of the tracks. (ANI)
