Ranbir, Priyanka to meet Sylvester Stallone
27-Jan-2010
Mumbai, Jan 27 (IANS) Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor, who are shooting for "Anjaana Anjaani", are set to meet Rocky-Rambo superstar Sylvester Stallone.
In fact, one of the temptations for them to do Sajid Nadiadwala's "Anjaana Anjaani" was that the producer was a friend of Stallone who featured in his last film "Kambakkht Ishq".
"Ranbir and Priyanka definitely want to meet him. I'm flying down to Las Vegas to join them on January 27. We'll be meeting Stallone on the 4th or 5th of February," Nadiadwala told IANS.
Earlier, Nadiadwala had taken Saif Ali Khan to meet Stallone in Los Angeles.
Sajid and his son Subhaan were supposed to meet Stallone during the New Year. But the actor injured his neck and the appointment was cancelled. Now a new date is being worked out.
And Priyanka and Ranbir insist on accompanying their producer for the meeting.
"I think Ranbir and Priyanka will kill me if I go without them to see Sly. We'll all be driving down from Las Vegas, where Ranbir and Priyanka are shooting, to Los Angeles to meet Stallone. It's a two-three hour drive," said Sajid.
Ranbir, a big Stallone fan, owns a series of Rocky teeshirts. He intends to get a couple of them signed by the star. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra, Ranbir-Kapoor
National Award was totally unexpected: Priyanka Chopra
24-Jan-2010
New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) At 4 a.m. in New York Saturday, the last thing Priyanka Chopra was expecting to hear was that she had won her first National Film Award. She jumped out of bed in sheer joy when she got the news.
"It feels soooooo fantastic! It's 5 in the morning here (New York) and my phone has been ringing non-stop since about an hour. I am so excited," Priyanka told IANS over the phone from New York, where she has been shooting for Siddharth Anand's "Anjaana Anjaani".
The 27-year-old has won her first ever National Film Award for her performance in Madhur Bhandarkar's "Fashion". She says she is glad that she agreed to do the film.
"When Madhur approached me for this film, I was terrified about how complex the character was. But I am glad that I did it," she said.
Though Priyanka has already won several awards including a Filmfare best actress award for her portrayal of a struggling model in the film, she says the National Award is most special.
"This is a National Award! I was just not expecting this and especially because there are several regional films and actors competing for it. One can't keep track of the nominations at all. But this feels just great. After having won 15 awards for 'Fashion' so far, I feel I have come full circle with this one," she said.
Instead of celebrating her success, the actress says she was looking forward to the morning shoot scheduled for "Anjaana Anjaani", in which she is featuring opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
"I have a shoot tomorrow morning. So I just want to sleep right now so that I wake up fresh. I will be in a mood for celebration, but the shooting will definitely happen. It is my bread and butter - and also what will hopefully - yes hopefully, fetch me my next National award," she joked.
Priyanka, who made her Bollywood debut in 2003, says she received the most special congratulatory call from her parents. Her father Ashok Chopra had shed tears after watching "Fashion" in 2008 because he was touched with his daughter's performance, and he cried now again after hearing about her victory.
"My father called me up and said he is ecstatic and extremely proud of me. He had tears again. He is happy because I have achieved so much in such a short span of my career, and that makes him really proud," she added.
Priyanka, who won the Miss World title in 2000, made her Bollywood debut with "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy" and then featured in "Andaaz", for which she even won a Filmfare best female debut award.
In 2004, she delivered a critically acclaimed performance in "Aitraaz" and later did commercial films like "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi", "Bluffmaster", "Krrish", "Don - The Chase Begins Again", "Salaam-E-Ishq", et al. But it was "Fashion" that brought her into the league of top-rated actresses in Bollywood.
She has, since then, given commercial hits like "Dostana" and "Kaminey" and also featured in films like "What's Your Rashee", and more recently in "Pyaar Impossible", which didn't fare too well at the box office.
She is hoping to strike gold again with "Anjaana Anjaani" and Vishal Bharadwaj's "Seven Husbands". Labels: Priyanka-Chopra

Why Priyanka declined Rohan Sippy's film
18-Jan-2010
Mumbai, Jan 18 (IANS) Priyanka Chopra was apparently very keen to work in director Rohan Sippy's next but unfortunately she had to decline the offer as the shooting dates clashed with Vishal Bharadwaj's "Ek Bataa Saat", in which she plays a woman with seven husbands.
Rohan, who had earlier worked with Priyanka in "Bluffmaster", was also keen to cast her in his Goan drug-busting film. He wanted to cast Priyanka in a powerful role opposite the southern star Rana Daggubati, who is entering Bollywood.
The earlier plan was to cast Priyanka opposite Abhishek Bachchan. But now a newcomer will be paired with Abhishek while Priyanka was seriously considered opposite Daggubati.
"Unfortunately the dates on which Priyanka was required for Rohan's film clashed with Vishal Bharadwaj's film," said an industry source.
After "Kaminey", Priyanka has a unique chemistry with Bhardwaj. And in his "Ek Bataa Saat", she plays a woman with seven husbands, a big challenge for the actress.
"There was no way Priyanka could let go of Vishal's 'Ek Bataa Saath'. So she regretfully opted out of Rohan's film," the source added. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra
Priyanka to play Mohanlal's wife in 'Seven Husbands'
13-Jan-2010
Mumbai, Jan 13 (IANS) Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is now set to play Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's wife in Vishal Bharadwaj's next movie "Seven Husbands".
"Mohanlal will be playing one of Priyanka's husbands in 'Seven Husbands'. The names of other actors are being kept under wraps as of now," a source close to the actress told IANS.
This will be for the second time that Priyanka will play multiple characters in a single film. She had essayed 12 roles in Ashutosh Gowariker's "What's Your Rashee?", but the film failed to pull in audiences.
"Seven Husbands" is Bharadwaj's next venture after his acclaimed movie "Kaminey", which also starred Priyanka. The movie is said to be co-written by Bharadwaj and author Ruskin Bond. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra
Bollywood numbers game is too fickle: Priyanka Chopra
Mumbai, Jan 13 (IANS) Priyanka Chopra was marching towards the top with back-to-back hits "Dostana" and "Fashion" in 2008. Last year her "Kaminey" succeeded and if "What's Your Raashee?" had worked, she would have certainly come closer to being number one. But the actress refuses to get drawn into the numbers game.
"When a couple of my films would succeed at the box office, then people would start commenting 'Oh yes, you are at the number one spot'. But one flop later they may end up stating 'arrey, yeh spot toh thoda hil gaya'," Priyanka told IANS.
"In fact, sometimes you experience something even worse because the same people may even end up stating that she is gone and there is no future for her...However, one hit later, every statement would be retracted. No one can be really blamed because this entire numbers business is so fickle," said the actress who has seen quite a few ups and downs in her career.
Was this why she didn't worry much while signing a relatively smaller film like "Pyaar Impossible"? Though she claims it was the film's script that made her sign, she admits that big banners like Yash Raj Films have their relevance.
"Yes, one can't deny the relevance of big banners. However, a fact that also cannot be denied is that sometimes even big films don't work. I have first-hand experience in that because there have been some really big films that I wasn't convinced about and hence had to decline them," Priyanka said.
Unwilling to divulge the names of these films, she does reveal though that most of these films didn't work at the box office.
"This is what further convinced me that I had taken the right decisions," she said.
"On the other hand I have also done small films out of sheer gut instinct and they went on to be very good successes. So, you know, one can't really be sure about this industry which is anyway so unpredictable," the former beauty queen added.
"Pyaar Impossible" also starred Uday Chopra. Directed by Jugal Hansraj, the romantic comedy shows how fate brings Uday, a complete geek, and Priyanka, a beauty, together and love blooms amidst all odds.
Describing her fundamentals about working in films, she said: "It's best not to do any prior calculations and instead just step into doing something where your instinct drives you. This is why I concentrate completely on my work."
"As long as people say that I am a decently good actor and a very fine professional, I can say that I am at a happy place. I would be quite worried if they start saying anything to the contrary," added Priyanka, who has worked in around 30 films during the last six and a half years in Bollywood.
Priyanka will next be seen in Siddharth Anand's "Anjaana Anjaani" with Ranbir Kapoor. After that, she will begin work on Vishal Bharadwaj's yet untitled film. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra

31-Dec-2009
Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS) After emerging as one of the leading actresses in Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra has been declared India's top brand endorser in 2009, says a report.
According to the report by TAM AdEX, a division of TAM Media Research, Priyanka, 27, has edged past endorsement giants like skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.
Priyanka, who is awaiting the release of her next movie "Pyaar Impossible", is all smiles.
"I have always strived to give my very best. It has been very fulfilling experience to be the face of some of the best brands. In my mind, the findings of the survey endorse the equal opportunity country that we are emerging. Being a woman is no longer a disadvantage," Priyanka told IANS.

It's tough to play a simple, beautiful girl: Priyanka Chopra
Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS) She is smart, glamorous and one of the most sought after actresses in Bollywood, but Priyanka Chopra says it was difficult for her to portray a simple, beautiful girl in forthcoming film "Pyaar Impossible" and still try to hold the interest of audiences.
"When you do characters like one in 'Aitraaz', 'Fashion' or 'Kaminey', there are certain peripheries. For example, Sweety in 'Kaminey' won't be able to speak English or she won't wear jeans and top. They are also difficult, but the boundaries help. When I am playing a simple beautiful looking girl, how do I get your interest?" Priyanka said.
"Heroines ought to look beautiful, it's their work. We look pretty, we wear great clothes but that's our job. But how do I make you feel for her? That's why these films are more difficult," Priyanka, who has teamed up with Uday Chopra in the film, told IANS.
Written and produced by Uday, "Pyaar Impossible" is a romantic tale about a beauty and a geek. Directed by Jugal Hansraj, it shows how fate brings Uday and Priyanka come together and love blooms amidst all odds.
Talking about her character in "Pyaar Impossible", Priyanka said: "I play Alisha who works in a software company. She has always been a popular girl, fun loving and one who loves life. But at a young age she has to take a lot of responsibilities and she finds it difficult to manage and her life becomes chaotic," said Priyanka.
"Pyaar Impossible" is slated to release Jan 8.
The actress took three months before giving her final consent for the film.
"When I was offered the film, I was shooting for 'Kaminey'. So I told them I will take some time to decide. It took me around three months to read the script, but when I read it, I felt I was reading a romantic book or a breezy novel and I immediately called Uday and gave my consent," she added.
Priyanka was all praise for Uday and the way he has sketched the characters.
"Uday is a great human being and a very talented guy. The way he had written the story and sketched my character, they are very close to reality," Priyanka said before leaving for New York.
She will stay there for two and a half months to complete Siddharth Anand's "Anjana Anjani", which also features Ranbir Kapoor.
"I am planning to enjoy the New Year's eve in Times Square, but it's so cold and there has been a blizzard too so I'm not sure whether I would be able to go out of my hotel or not," said Priyanka.
Asked about her role in Farhan Akhtar's "Don 2", she said: "It's coming by the end of next year. The only thing I can say now is that I have some superb actions in 'Don 2' and I am very excited about that."
She has also signed on for Vishal Bharadwaj's tentatively titled "7 Husbands". Labels: Priyanka-Chopra
'Pyaar Impossible' not a classic like 'Mughal-e-Azam': Priyanka Chopra
22-Dec-2009
Mumbai, Dec 20 (IANS) Priyanka Chopra says "Pyaar Impossible" is one of the sweetest and simplest films she's done. And she doesn't want people going in for the movie expecting a classic like "Mughal-e-Azam".
"Please don't look for any complications in 'Pyaar Impossible' because there aren't any," Priyanka told IANS.
She has essayed a complex character in "Fashion" and 12 roles in "What's Your Raashee?" and that's why Priyanka wants to make it clear that her next is just a breezy romantic comedy.
"It's not necessary that all love stories have to be complicated. So many times it is the simplicity factor that comes out trumps and 'Pyaar Impossible' is one such film."
"Please don't start hunting for a classic tale a la 'Mughal-e-Azam' here because that was never the intent," Priyanka said.
"We wanted to make a feel good fun film that can be identified by the teens and youth and tells their story while keeping the entertainment value intact. One should just enter the theatre with a bag full of popcorn and enjoy those couple of hours," she added.
She is paired opposite Uday Chopra, for whom "Pyaar Impossible" is a comeback of sorts. The actor, who made his debut nine years ago with "Mohabbatein" (2000), was last seen in "Dhoom 2" (2006).
"Pyaar Impossible" is produced by him under the Yash Raj Films banner and directed by Jugal Hansraj.
'Pyaar Impossible' is the story of a geek called Abhay (Uday), who falls in love with the most beautiful girl in the campus, Alisha (Priyanka). While most people believe this love story would be impossible, some also wonder if fate would get the two together and if this 'pyaar' would indeed turn out to be 'possible'.
"That's where the real sweet elements about the film come in because the girl truly believes that geek or no geek; it's the intrinsic good qualities of one's own self that make people fall in love with you. On the other hand, the boy believes that good looks do matter. This is what kick starts the entire point of view of possibility of love in contrasting individuals," Priyanka explained.
This is why she is particularly fond of the title song where she is dressed as a geek in a manner similar to that of Uday's character in the film. With spectacles on, unkempt hair, loose T-Shirt and baggy shorts, she follows the geek look to the T, as instructed by Uday who challenges her that she can never find a guy looking like a geek.
"I take this challenge while being quite sure that men would look deeper into me than just the looks. All of this is conveyed through the title song which has been picturised in such a sweet manner. Do I eventually get a guy for myself? Well, watch out for that in the film," she said.
Also starring Dino Morea in a special appearance along with Anupam Kher, "Pyaar Impossible" is set to release in January. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra
Failure scares me: Priyanka Chopra
21-Dec-2009
Mumbai, Dec 20 (IANS) Priyanka Chopra, one of the most sought after actresses in the Hindi film industry, says she is sacred of failure and that she reels under a 'flop' for a long time.
"Failure is something that scares me a lot. And failure of a film not only disappoints me, it breaks my heart because I put in lot of efforts in all my films," Priyanka told reporters at the success party of Arindam Chaudhuri's book "Discover The Diamond In You" at the JW Marriot Hotel here over the weekend.
"Every time a film doesn't do well, I mourn for at least three weeks. It takes me really a long time to get out of it."
Priyanka is impressed by Chaudhuri's book.
"I think success is very important. In this concise book of only 59 pages, professor Chaudhuri has given a fantastic explanation on how in nine different ways one can make himself a successful human being," said Priyanka.
"Discover The Diamond In You" is Chaudhuri's third book after "Count Your Chickens Before They Are Hatched" and "The Great Indian Dreams".
He says that he wanted to to reach out to more people with the book.
"I'm a teacher. The need to reach out to more people than those in my classroom made me write this book," Arindam told IANS. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra
Priyanka prefers good script over 'popularity of co-actor'
20-Oct-2009
Priyanka Chopra says she gives importance to script and not her co-stars while choosing a film. That is why she agreed to work with Hurman Baweja in "What's Your Rashee?".
She did "Kaminey" with Shahid Kapoor when all wasn't hunky dory with him and she is also pairing up with yet another flop actor Uday Chopra in her next film "Pyaar Impossible".
"The scripts work for me. 'Kaminey' has proved right - it's proved to be a huge success for being such a different film. It's tremendously successful and that goes to show the importance of a story," she said.
"It's the content of a film which is most important and I honestly go with my instincts when I choose a film and that is what has always worked for me.
"Even 'Pyaar Impossible' is about a geek who is in love with a girl he is scared to even talk to and how these two people get together. I just pick films based on whether the content is different or not," she added. Labels: Priyanka-Chopra
