Bhole Shankar-Mithun Chakraborty's first Bhojpuri film
29 Feb, 2008

Some climax scenes of film Bhole Shankar were shot recently in Kamalistan Studio of Mumbai. Mithun Chakraborty, who is acting for the first time in any Bhojpuri film participated in the shooting and was very happy with the story line and working of debutant director Pankaj Shukla's work.

Commenting on his experience of his first Bhojpuri film, Mithun said, "I keep on doing regional films, and Bhole Shankar is also one among them. But, yes, this is for the first time that I am doing a Bhojpuri film. The language that is called Bhojpuri in Hindi films is quite different from the original Bhojpuri. This I came to know in this film only. Pankaj was very helpful for me in getting the right accent for this film."

When asked about his role in the film, he said, "I play Shankar an underworld don who also happens to be big brother of Bhole, played by Super Star of Bhojpuri Cinema, Manoj Tiwari. The scene that we are shooting today is the climax of the film where Bhole's girl friend Gauri, played by Monalisa, gets kidnapped. Bhole's friend Santram, played by Gopal Singh, informs Shankar about this and then Shankar raids villian's den and saves the girl."

Raghvendra Mudgal, Crime Reporter fame, makes his debut as main villain in the film. On selection of Raghvendra Mudgal, director of the film Pankaj Shukla said, "Raghvendra has a very huge fan following across the nation. He has acted in plays and short films, and was waiting for a right script to make his debut on big screen. He is a trained NSD actor and he has delivered what I wanted from him."

On the other hand Raghvendra looked pretty happy to face movie camera for the first time in his career, "I know Pankaj Sir since the time he was looking after programming in Zee News. He is a real Jauhari, and I am thankful to him that he gave this chance to act in films. Having done more than 600 episodes of Crime Reporter on TV, films were the only next thing to happen."

Bhole Shankar's heroine Monalisa was also very happy to share the screen with The CULT STAR of indian cinema, Mithun Chakraborty. Disclosing her role in the film she said, "Its very rare that one gets such a role in Bhojuri cinema. Pankaj Sir has created a role that fits me. I play Gauri who is a self dependant girl. She is not just the show piece. She is instrumental to encourage Bhole to achieve what he was lounging for his whole life."

Writer-Director Pankaj Shukla who has earlier directed many hit and trend setter shows on TV is very confident about his film. He said, "Bhojouri Cinema has a very large audience but people have taken this audience for granted. Vulgarity will never sell in the long run for Bhojpuri Cinema and my film is on the lines of Rajshri films. It is a clean family entertainer with right dose of action, emotion and comedy, that one can watch with whole family."

When asked, how he managed to rope in Mithun Chakraborty for Bhojpuri film after he had refused same offers even from Balaji Telefilms and Adlabs, Pankaj revealed with smile, "For me Mithun Da is an icon of humanity. I know him in person for so many years and he is a man of his words. He had promised me long back to work in a Bhojpuri film if I make one. And when I started Bhole Shankar, he did not even think for one second in saying Yes. He did not even ask for the rest of the cast and other things. I can assure you that Bhole Shankar will be a path breaking film for Bhojuri audience."

Produced by Gulshan Bhatia, Bhole Shankar also has SAREGAMAPA finalists Raja Hasan, Mauli Dave and Poonam Yadav singing for the first time as play back singers. A song is also picturised on Mithun Chakrabory which is sung by his screen voice of 80's, Shailendra Singh.

Karnataka kudis rule Bollywood
26 Nov, 2007

New Delhi, Nov.26 (ANI): Once can be termed a fluke. The second makes a point and the third time its validation. Aishwarya Rai, then Shilpa Shetty and now Deepika Padukone, the three damsels from Karnataka have captured the imagination of the Bombay film industry.

Their dancing skills, chiseled bodies, large limpid eyes, perfect diction and dialogue delivery, dignified demeanour has the industry and viewers accepting the fact that Kannadigas have more to offer than Deve Gowda and rava dosai.

And yet another K factor. If you combine a KK (Karnataka Kudi) with another K (khan) well you get sparkles. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam had the KK plus K combine of Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan and that raked in huge moolah and Om Shanti Om has the KK plus K of Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan, and what a blockbuster that one is.

That brings us to the other Karnataka Kudi, Shilpa Shetty. She has managed to melt the icy Brit hearts. So far, the Brits thought that only Udupi cuisine is what came out of Mangalore, that coastal city (mind it, its not a town) in Karnataka. Not so. This hot Kannadiga lady has shown that Mangalore has ice (Aishwarya) and fire (Shilpa). Now beat that.

But why call them 'kudis' which is the Punjabi word for 'lass' you might ask...because they can do the Punjabi thumak better than the Punjabi leading ladies of today. Watch Shilpa Shetty gyrating in OSO and see the Punjabi kudi Karishma Kapoor shaking her head and bobbing her knee....what was Farah Khan thinking? See Aishawarya doing the gidda in Bride and Prejudice and look at the dancing of Priyanka Chopra or Lara Datta. There is grace and vigour in Aishwarya, but in Priyanka and Lara's style its in your face heaving and jumping and lip biting.

And what about the new K entrant. Deepika Padukone is disarmingly charming as 'dreamy girl'. Her poise and innocent looks are signs that she is "lambi race ka ghoda (ghodi?). So, whereas there will always be room for Kareenas and Poojas of the film industry, the reigning queen will always be from the Deccan, whether it is Vijayanti Mala Bali, Hema Malini, Rekha or Vidya Balan.

Maybe, it can be loaned for a while to bong bombshells like Rakhee, Sharmila Tagore, Kajol or Rani. But for today, it's with the K brigade, thank you.  (ANI)

Sindhi Film 'Pyar Kare Dis: Feel The Power'

Sindhi Cinema "Pyar Kare Dis: Feel The Power" will set precedence for Sindhi film making It Is My Humble Effort To Encourage Sindhi Cinema, Says Producer M Harwani   If  Bhojpuri Movies Can Do It, So Can Sindhi Movies, Says Director Kamal D Nathani   . Sindhi Cinema is all set to mark the Bollywood with Kamal D Nathani's directorial soon-to-be-released Sindhi movie "Pyar Kare Dis: Feel the Power of Love." It is his humble effort to encourage Sindhi Cinema after a long gap of more than 5 years. Though there are nearly 20 movies released in the same language in the span of 60 years of independence, the director and the producer   is trying to encourage the spirit again. In spite of the fact that the Bollywood community owes infinite producers, financers, and artists from Sindhi community, they fail to release a movie in their mother tongue. 'Pyar Kare Dis: Feel the Power of Love', a family entertainer, has a contemporary theme and portrays the realities faced by the community today. It is journey of a Non Resident Indian girl to her country of origin. The movie will appear on screen by 14 th September 2007. The movie focuses Bollywood actress Preeti Jhangiani who has done a special song   in the movie. Since Sindhi community, with a population of more than five crore, has a world wide presence; the movie can yield rich dividends and pump life into sindhi cinema. Sinllywood on the thresholds!  . After a gap of more than 5 years.

Is it not ironical that despite having many big producers, financers, technicians and artists from the Sindhi community in Bollywood, release of a movie in this language is a rare occurrence, asks Kamal D Nathani, director of soon-to-be-released family entertainer " Pyar Kare Dis: Feel the Power of Love". Mr Nathani, who has just finished shooting and is busy in post production of the movie told reporters here, in last 60 years of Independent India, there are 20-odd movies made in the language, though there is no dearth of resources as the community is economically sound. When asked, is it commercially viable to make a Sindhi movie and recover the cost, M Harwani, Denmark-based producer of the movie told over phone, with the population of five crore, Sindhi community has presence all over the world, there is ample scope for a Sindhi movie to be a profitable venture, while Mr Nathani  asserted if a Bhojpuri movie can recover its cost and run successfully in non-Bhojpuri speaking centers, why not a Sindhi movie?

"The success of PYAR KARE DIS would change this scenario", hoped Mr. Harwani, who had earlier made " Pyar Ka Tarana" with Dev Anand."It is a humble effort on my part to encourage Sindhi cinema in particular and the language in general", claimed Mr Harwani. Mr Harwani opined that in fact, Sindhi movies made in black & white era with limited resources were well received because they had good stories to tell and were well-made but in the recent past, say in last 15-20 years, movies made in the language were very poor in content, he said and added also the look of the movie is very important as you have to compete with a Bollywood movie.About 'Pyar Kare Dis: Feel the Power of Love', Mr. Nathani said it has a contemporary theme and portrays the realities which community is facing today. According to Mr. Nathani, PYAR KARE DIS is a typical 'feel good' movie with all ingredients of a family entertainer.  It is journey of a Non Resident Indian girl to her country of origin, where she finds her love of life, he added.  .

'Pyar Kare Dis: Feel the Power of Love' is a love story cum family drama and stars Jiten Lalwani, Menka Lalwani, Vishal Vatwani, Mehak Bhatia, Gunjan Tharwani, Neeru Asrani, Jaya Asrani, Seema Motwani, Prakash Ramchandani, Mayuri Raghani and S C Makhija. Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, Shaan, Roopkumar Rathod, Richa Sharma, Shilpa Vaswani and Sada Thakur have lend their voice to the songs penned by Prabhu Vafa & Vasdev Nirmal.
