Lukewarm response for 'Strangers' that hit theatres on Friday
15 Dec, 2007
Mumbai, Dec 14 (ANI): After a not so encouraging performance by 'Dus Kahaniyan' and 'Aaja Nachle' at the box office, Bollywood's latest offering this Friday is a romantic thriller 'Strangers', but chances of it bringing the audience back to theatres seem bleak.
Experts opine that the lack of a big star cast in the film will pose a big hindrance in this film getting a good opening at the box office.
The star cast of the film includes actors like Kay Kay Menon, Jimmy Shergill, Nandana Sen and Sonali Kulkarni.
'Strangers', which is directed by debutante Aanand L Rai, narrates the tale of two unknown persons who in a chance meeting in a business class compartment in England discuss their private lives, failed marriages and the everlasting effect it has had on them.
The producers of the movie are Uday Tiwari and Raj Kundra.
The leading lady of the film Nandana Sen was very excited about her role in the forthcoming release.
"What's really interesting about the movie 'Strangers' is that it's extra ordinary in a lot of ways. It's unusual and is a strangely beautiful film. It's very unique and combination of different genre, it's a thriller but it is also a love story," said Nandana.
The first time music director Vinay Tiwari has composed music for the film, while veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has penned down the lyrics.
"In this film I've done two songs. TIPS (company that has the audio rights of the movie) took two songs from us gave it to the film. They liked the songs and they are in the film," said Vinay.
The film has evoked a mixed response from the movie aficionados with some saying that it's a one-time treat.
"Movie was fantastic. You have to watch it once at least. Jimmy Shergill's acting was good," said Radha.
While, there were others like Harsh who didn't feel that strongly about the film.
"Movie is just okay there is nothing great about the film. It's a story about two strangers played by K.K. Menon and Jimmy Shergill who meet in the train and discuss about their lives," said Harsh. (ANI) --MP Labels: Reviews
Dus Kahanian - Starring Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Mandira Bedi, Nanapatekar, Neha Dhupia, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Tanushree Dutta etc.
8 Dec, 2007

Mumbai, Dec 7 (ANI): 'Dus Kahaniyaan', which released today across the country has ten stories as the title of the film suggests, and takes forward the latest trend of multiple stories in a single film that was recently showcased in films like Salaam-e-Ishq, Darna Zaroori Hain and Darna Mana Hain.
'Dus Kahaniyaan' is a celluloid mosaic of 10 short films scripted by 12 writers and has an ensemble cast of 25 actors. The star cast of the film includes veterans like Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah who will be seen together on the silver screen after two decades.
Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Nana Patekar, Dino Morea, Aftab Shivdasani, Neha Dhupia, Tanushree Dutta and Mandira Bedi are also in the film's different stories.
The directors' list for the film includes Sanjay Gupta along with others like Hansal Mehta, Meghna Gulzar, Apoorva Lakhia, and Jasmeet Dhodhi. Rohit Roy, an actor, makes his debut as a director in this film.
The film is a Sanjay Dutt presentation in association with Eros International and White Feather Films.
The producer and director Sanjay Gupta known for his earlier films like Kaanta, Zinda, Khauff and Musaffir to name a few is very upbeat about this film.
"What is different here is that none of the films are connected to each other, they are not of the same genre. They deal with different aspects of society and they are also set in different time frames. Each film has its own universe, has got its own space, look and style," said, Sanjay Gupta.
Telly actor Rohit Roy who besides acting in this movie has also directed one of the 10 short films says that this flick has put his creative abilities to test.
"As a filmmaker you have actually conceived the whole concept, you work on a script, get your actors together, finish the film, edit it and then you leave that process. For me working for ten days on the film 'Rice Plate' has been a much more satisfying experience than my ten years of acting," Rohit said.
Actress Minissha Lamba expressed her liking for the role she essays in this movie.
"Apart from my first, mostly I have portrayed urban characters. This is the first time I have played a traditional character. This is not today's story, it dates back by around 10-20 years and is set in a village near Chandigarh where they live," added Minisha.
On the whole, it is a cornucopia of ten stories with the interesting plots outnumbering the less interesting ones, which could well turn out to be the factor that will give it a good box office run. (ANI) --MP

Sudhir Mishra, director par excellence has directed this film. He has won accolades for his direction.
"I have worked very hard on the storyline of this movie for two years. We have worked on the intricate details while writing the script. Everyone has worked very hard. Now let's see what the result is and how the public receives it. But I'm sure of one thing that you won't be disappointed after watching this film. Madhuri's comeback film generates enough buzz
30 Nov, 2007
New Delhi/Mumbai, Nov 29 (ANI): Yesteryear's heartthrob Madhuri Dixit is finally returning back to silver screen with 'Aaja Nachle', and has donned the grease paint once again for a role of a theatre actress. The queen of Indian marquee, Madhuri Dixit has already generated enough buzz for the movie, which will be released this Friday.
The movie has been produced by Yash Raj Films and marks the debut of Anil Mehta as director. For cinematographer-turned-director Anil Mehta, importance lies in how audience would react to it.
"I do not have the forecasting skills in me as to how the film will perform. But I'm eagerly waiting on how the audiences will react to the film and what will be their reaction to this film," Mehta said.
Noted film critics Komal Nahata believes that Mehta must have been able to do justice to the file.
"I have absolutely no doubts that Anil Mehta would have done fullest justice to his job as a director, more because he has given command of cinematography to another cinematographer; And if Aditya Chopra has signed him he must have been convinced that he is a good director; but it is all about whether the story appeals to the public or not," Nahata.
In this film Madhuri plays the role of theatre actress Dia, whose ten-year sojourn into the world of theatre has been portrayed.
The film is made against the backdrop of the theatre world and promises to be a gripping foray with plenty of room for exploration, as very few films have actually dealt with this subject.
The rest of the cast includes the Imran played by the impressive Kunal Kapoor, local tomboy Anokhi (Konkona Sen), local ex-MLA Chaudhary Om Singh (Akhilendra Mishra), tea stall owner Mohan Sharma (Ranvir Shorey), government official Mr. Chojar (Vinay Pathak), struggling insurance agent Sanjeev Mehta portrayed by Jugal Hansraj, the town vagabond Dhankuber (Nowaz) and a host of others.
Publicists of the film are very cautiously promoting the film as Madhuri's come back movie. The film's promos are on every channel and major newspapers are carrying advertisements of the film's release.
Film critics are, however, not very upbeat about the film release while at the same time do not rule out Madhuri's comeback.
"I would like to say that if the film is good, the film would pick up. Yash Raj film, Chak De India (Come on India) did not have that good an opening, but because the film had merits the film went on to become the biggest hit of 2007 so far. So you can't rule out if the film is good she will be able to stage a come back because there is a craze and curiosity to see her. This film per say has not been able to generate the kind of lead that one would have wanted it too," said Nahata.
The audience's opinion is more or less unanimous with cine buffs wanting to watch her comeback movie.
The fans are euphoric over the new release and one such fan is Pappu Sardar of Jharkhand.
"Madhuri Dixit's film Aaja Nachle is being released; therefore we have come to Jharkhand to make the people dance here. The movie will be screened at Highlight theatre (in Jharkhand) and on every ticket one will get a key ring and an ice cream," said Pappu Sardar. (ANI) --MP Labels: Aaja-Nachle, Madhuri-Dixit, Reviews

Director Anurag Kashyap's "No Smoking" is a story about a rich and powerful chain-smoking businessman, "K", who decides to kick the habit, after his wife threatens to leave him.

Bhool Bhuliya
The Priyadarshan-directed movie, is a psycho thriller and is based on the subject which has never been taken up by any director on the screen, Akshay Kumar says. "I mean when we switch on any channel of TV we get to listen lots of stories related to ghosts, witches and supernautral powers. We have grown up listening such stories. My film is an attempt to spread an awareness that there is no existence of ghosts and what most of us believe is our superstition. The film is being released on October 12, he says. "It is not a comedy as some people are guessing it to be after watching the promos on television channels," he says. "The film is actually a tug of war between the superstition and science and an attempt to educate people about superstition," he says. "Log babon ke pass jaatey haien, jisko problem hai usko peeta jaata hai (people visit quacks and the one who is suffering is beaten). I think in an educated society such things needs to be stopped," Akshay Kumar says. The film was extensively shot in Rajasthan especially in Jaipur. Rajasthan's picturesque locales have always appealed filmmakers and in our story we need backdrop of Rajasthan. Labels: Akshay-Kumar, Reviews
Johnny Gaddaar

It's about five friends who plan a certain caper and the caper goes wrong because, one of the friends is a double crosser. Now, the audience knows right in the beginning that this person has done it but other characters don't know. The fun of the movie is like when will they (other four members) find out, how will they find out, what happens when they find out and how will he deal with it?" said Sriram Raghavan, the film's director.
The film carries nuances from James Hadley Chase novels and other Bollywood thrillers, and its soundtrack is generating quite a lot of interest amongst the people. (ANI) Labels: Reviews
