Kashmiri women from India, Pakistan chalk out their roles in peace process
Sunday, 18 November, 2007

Srinagar, Nov 17 (ANI): Kashmiri women from both sides of the Line of Control (LOC) held discussions on their role in strengthening the peace process between India and Pakistan in a three-day conference organised here, as part of the ongoing people-to-people contact between the two countries.

Over 50 women from both sides of the LoC are taking part in the conference titled 'Connecting Women across the LoC'.

Discussions on various issues, including gender parity, are high on the agenda of the conference.

"This conference is very important. We are getting the opportunity to share our views and can tell our stories to each other," said Samina Khan, a television journalist from Pakistani Kashmir.

The conference is being organized by Delhi-based Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) in collaboration with the Women Studies Centres of the universities of Jammu and Kashmir.

"This is a historic occasion that the first such intra- Kashmir conference is being organised somewhere in the East or West LoC in Jammu and Kashmir," said Sushoba Barve, executive Secretary of Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation.

Syeda Saiyidain Hameed, a member of Indian Planning Commission, had inaugurated the three-day conference on Friday. (ANI)
