Rs 5 lakh relief each for 16 victims of Punjab train-bus collision

Moga (Punjab), Dec 14 (ANI): Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced an ex-gratia of rupees five lakh (Rs. 500,000) to families of each of the dead in bus-train collision in Punjab's Moga District.

He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 50,000 each for grievously injured and Rs. 15,000 each for those who suffered simple injuries in the collision.

After the initial reports pegged the death toll at 17, a Railway Ministry release said 16 persons were killed in the incident and 13 others were injured.

The injured have been shifted to the hospitals.

According to police, the collision occurred when a mini bus, carrying college students and teachers, rammed into the Ludhiana-Ferozepur Sutlej Express at Nuchur Chak village between Ajitwal and Jagraon station.

The accident took place at a manned gate which was closed as the train was passing, railway officials said.

No causality or injury has been reported to any train passenger.

According to reports, the accident may have happened due to fog.

An inquiry by the Commissioner of Railway Safety has been ordered. (ANI)
