Special Courts needed to check adulteration: Amritsar Vikas Manch
Saturday, 15 December, 2007

Amritsar, Dec 15 (ANI): Concerned over the increase of adulteration in fruits, vegetables, besides other food items, the Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) has called on special courts to try such cases and ensure their fast disposal.

In a letter to Punjab's Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Luxmi Kanta Chawla, AVM President Er. Harbhajan Singh Gill expressed appreciation for the ongoing drive against violations of public health regulations and apprised her of the highly adulterated fruits, vegetables and condiments being vended in markets.

Gill called for the identification of culprits and for strict punishment of those caught under existing laws to curb the spread of this menace.

According to him, there was a need to air and promote frequent awareness to restrict the consumers.

The AVM is a non profit making community development organisation that was established in 1991.

The organisation's focus is on improving urban habitat and implementation of 'Millennium Development Goals'.

The organisation is playing an active role for the all round development of the city by taking up issues related to airport, roads, pollution and civic amenities with the concerned authorities. (ANI)
