Tripura went to polls on Saturday amid tight security and witnessed a huge turnout with 80 per cent voting to elect a new 60-member Assembly.
The voting which started at morning 7:00 went peaceful and a large number of people were still waiting to vote even after the polling time of 4:00 pm.
Over 20 lakh voters were there in the electorate who will decide the fate of 313 candidates, including 28 women and 64 independents. For the first time the ruling CPI(M) is on a direct fight with the opposition Congress-Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) alliance.
