Condemning US Ambassador to India, David Mulford's remarks over the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Left parties had once again appealed to the Center government not to succumb to outside pressures to push India through the nuke deal.
Mulford in an interview indicated that if the deal was not processed in the present Congress it would not be offered to India. Reacting to this, CPI MP D Raja said that India was a sovereign country having a vibrant Parliament and cannot be rushed into taking any decision under pressure. He also added that India was on its own way of developing nuclear technology and looking for alternative options like uranium and thorium.
The Left ally Forward Block also accused Mulford of "threatening" India on the issue and maintained that India should not sign any deal that was US-specific.
