The Election Commission has deferred the decision further on the petition against Sonia Gandhi over the honorary doctorate awarded to her by the Belgian government.
A Kerala advocate had filed a notice seeking Ms Gandhi's disqualification as a Lok Sabha member for receiving the Belgian honour which was given to her during her Europe visit in November, 2006.
The petitioner claimed that receiving of the Belgian honour amounted to owing allegiance to the Constitution of that country.
However the 3 member Commission could not take a common decison on the matter.
Meanwhile Cong party said the complaint had no basis. "The Election Commission will use its discretion and reach an appropriate decision in the matter," said spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi.
