Amid high security, the polling for eighth Meghalaya Assembly has begun on Monday morning. Meanwhile Baghmara assembly constituency elections were delayed for a later date on March 22 following death of Cong MLA S Sangma.
There are a total of 331 candidates contesting this elections including 6 former chief ministers. The fate of the candidates will be decided as Meghalaya goes for polling which has a total of 12,32,907 voters.
The Congress is contesting all the seats while the United Democratic Party has 52 candidates. The Nationalist Congress Party has come up with 50 candidates. There are 73 Independents in the fray
