The Sixth Pay Commission headed by Justice B N Srikrishna in its report submitted to the Finance Minister have recommended an average 40 per cent hike in the salaries of government employees.
The revised pay hike will come into effect from Jan 1, 2006. However the effective pay hike is said to much lesser than this as the government had merged 50 per cent of the Dearness Allowance with the basic pay with effect from January 1, 2004.
The commission has also proposed increase in other allowances like HRA, educational allowance and transport allowance. Under the new scales, the minimum entry level salary would be Rs 6660 while the highest for the cabinet secretary post would be Rs 1 lakh.
