Govt ask to implement quotas from 2008
Monday, 21 April, 2008
Even with the premier institutes asking for more time on the OBC quotas, the Center government had asked all the higher educational institutions across the country to implement the OBC quotas from the coming academic session of 2008. The HRD ministry issued the directive on this regard to the Central Educational Institutions (CIE). This is in view with the Supreme Court's judgement on April 10 uphelding the 27 per cent reservation for OBCs excluding the creamy layer from its ambit. "The policy of reservation for the OBCs under the Central Educational Institutions Act is to be implemented from the forthcoming academic session and this is applicable to all the CEIs, exceptions being only those institutions of excellence, research institutions of national and strategic importance specified in the Schedule to the CEI Act," said the HRD ministry. --MP
