Chandrayaan-1 at 100kms from moon
Thursday 13 November 2008
India's first moon mission project Chandrayaan-1 has successfully entered its last lunar orbit on Wednesday, confirms ISRO scientists.
At an altitude of about 100kms from moon surface, the spacecraft will continue to remain in this orbit for the next 2 years of its life. With the satellite placed in its expected orbit, Chandraayan-1 will now carry out scientific explorations in the lunar surface over the next 2 years. For this, the spacecraft will eject the Moon Impact Probe onto the moon's surface which is likely to occur on Friday. --MP
