Miera Kumar set for first Madam LS Speaker

India is set to create a significant moment in its history by opting to go for its first woman Lok Sabha speaker. The Congress leadership has chosen Water Resources Minister Meira Kumar who has apparently resigned from the cabinet after being nominated by the UPA government for the post of presiding officer of the LS. The 63 year old, also a 5 time MP is the daughter of late Babu Jagjivan Ram, who served as Deputy Prime Minister of India. Miera who served as a former IFS officer, later joined politics.
A law graduate, she also holds a Masters degree in English literature. She was a minister in the previous UPA government too. Miera who is to be the consensus candidate as the new speaker would be elected on Wednesday.--MP
