Though India's maiden moon mission Chandrayaan-1 was called off last month before its complete exploration, ISRO has hailed the mission as a path breaking event with the discovery of water traces on the surface of the moon. The findings show that both water and hydroxyl(molecule of one h ydrogen and one oxygen atom) were in abundance as much as about 1000 parts per million could be in the upper layerwich s of lunar soil. The valuable evidence were brought out with the Moon Impact Probe on the Chandrayaan 1, along with NASA's Moon Mineralogy Mapper(M3) instument on board the spacecraft.
