Genetically modified(GM) BT brinjal, the first GM food crop from India have got the green signal from the Union Environment ministry and now all set for its commercial launch in the markets. The crop was declared safe for consumption by the biotech experts of GEAC and been given clearance for commercial use for the first time. However the moveĀ have irked the environmentalists who claimed that such crops lack bio safety standards and lead to environmental implications and called for more tests to be carried out before its release.
