Dolphin is India's national aquatic animal

Dolphin species found in the river Ganges has been adopted as India's National Aquatic Animal. This comes after the National River Ganga Basin Authority (NRGBA) decided to give the dolphins the national status. This dolphin species are particularly found in rivers like ganges and Brahmaputra are however said to be declining in the recent years owing to environmental pollution and river poaching. In an effort to bring back the dolphin numbers an ambitious project called 'Mission Clean Ganga' project has been launched by the government, which is estimated at Rs 150 billion. -- MP
