As a measure to create awareness on AIDS and in an effort to curb social discrimination against children with AIDS, the government will soon make it mandatory for pregnant women in the country to undergo screening for HIV and AIDS test. At present India records over 2.4 million people suffering with this deadly disease. There are many a incidents were the HIV contracted children are often faced with discrimination in their society. To combat the spread of the disease, the Parliamentary forum on HIV and AIDS has proposed this step as a move to eradicate the virus from being transmitted from a HIV mother to a new born child.
