PM warns on impacts of river linking projects

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, alerting on the adverse impacts on river linking projects, said that any decision on such projects would be taken only after experts consultation. Speaking at a Ledership Summit in NewDelhi, Mr Singh said that the interlinking of major rivers could severely affect the ecological balance and environment and hence need to act with caution. Earlier the environment Ministry also had opposed the move of linking major rivers in the country referring it as a huge economical and ecological disaster. -- MP
