‘Umrao Jaan’ shooting in Jaipur and Lucknow

The initial shooting for J. P Dutta’s Aishwarya starrer ‘Umrao Jaan’ is finally underway in the palace of Rajastan’s capital city, Jaipur. The other rounds of the 2 month initial shooting will take place in Lucknow. The shooting which was supposed to begin in October got delayed due to the unavailability of Ash who got involved with the shooting of her first Hollywood film ‘The Last Legion’ in Tunisia. Ash will play the title role of courtesan and poetess Umrao Jaan in the movie.

Deewane Hue Paagal

This Vikram Bhatt movie, Deewane Hue Pagal is a romantic tale of a group of Romeos falling in love for a lovely lady. Akshay Kumar is dominant in his comic role and rocks the show. Rimmi Sen, the lady love keeps up with her role. Film has a whole lot of stars like Sunil Shetty, Shahid Kapoor, Rimmi Sen, Om Puri, and Paresh Rawal. The dance sequences and action scenes across the sand dunes of Dubai are sure highlights of the movie. The movie comes as a good entertainer except for a few hitches here and there.

But the climax is rather confusing for the average Indian audience. Many a film has come up with similar themes on crime in the recent past and the movie lacks substance. Fardeen Khan does fairly well. Farther Feroz Khan is okay. But it’s KK who makes a notable performance. Koena Mitra acting skills are average. Manoj Soni’s cinematography and Hemal Kothari’s fast paced editing gives it a trendy gloss.

Dev Anand to be chief guest for IFFI opening

Filmmaker Rakeysh Mehra’s 'Rang de Basanti' is a youthful drama, a film about rising above the odds for ones beliefs. Amir Khan plays the lead role. Popular British stage actress Alice Patten who pairs with Aamir in the film will mark her debut in feature film with this movie. The story is about a young English filmmaker who comes to India to take a film on the Indian freedom fighters. But due to shortage of funds she gets hold of students to play the cast. The film unfolds how the youth get inclined by the courage and spirit of their great revolutionary leaders. Cast includes Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan etc. A. R Rahman does the background music for the film. The film is to release in January 2006.

Devgan starrer ‘Apaharan’ on Dec 2nd
