Monday, December 24, 2007

Reciprocating the sensibility of situation and traditions around...

"Silence that Speaks" is the title of an exhibition of water colours which is being organised at Lalit Kala Academy till 29 th December 2007. The painting included in the exhibition is created by Late Prof. C.L. Sharma, which has been curated by their childrens; Swami Saran Sharma, Dr. Sucharita Sharma and Dr. Avinash Chander Sharma.

The exhibition was inaugurated recently by H.E . Dr. Ferdinand Maultaschl (Ambassador of Austria). On this occasion Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury (National Advisor NLSA – Ministry of Law & Justice, Govt. of India), artist and art critic Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi, Sudhakar Sharma, Mrs. C.L. Sharma, Swami Saran Sharma, Dr. Sucharita Sharma and Dr. Avinash Sharma were also present there.

Prof. C.L. Sharma was one of those painters of Punjab who have not restricted their paintings to canvas only but have spread it to the general masses. He developed a novel view of painting in the minds of people by throwing light on the cultural side of paintings and through this medium people have started associating themselves with our old heritage. In the last decades of the 20 th Century Prof. C.L. Sharma took a revolutionary step to promote paintings, whose resultant effect was that right from the school level to the University level Painting got a status as a subject. The credit of initiating Master of Fine Arts in Colleges & Universities goes to Prof. C.L. Sharma.

Prof. C.L. Sharma used water and oil colours to portray his creativity. But the paintings with water colours brought him laurels and fame. He made human figures and scenes in water medium. Art critics praised him greatly for his outstanding excellence in Painting.

"Silence that Speaks" is an exhibition on canvas that has the perfection of Prof. Sharma's imagination and experiences, which are silent but still reciprocates the sensibility of situation and traditions around. The fact is that this is an exhibition which is not only impressive but also attractive.

On this occasion artist and art critic Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi said, the gentle and delicate touch of the artist in his creative moments comes through in no uncertain terms as one can almost walk through holding the artist's hand as he allows us a peep into his journey. The quiet moments, the lyrical moments, the soul searching are all visible only if one cares to linger and savour.
