Launch of nationwide youth campaign against terrorism..."TOGETHER FOR PEACE"

New Delhi, 18 December 2008: The recent terrorist attack on Mumbai has left a sense of anguish and shock among people all over the nation. It has posed a serious challenge to the security and integrity of our nation. The youth volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan have always risen in the hour of crisis to serve the nation. It has reaffirmed its commitment to unity, peace, national integrity and secular solidarity. At this crucial juncture the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has decided to launch the nationwide youth campaign "Together for Peace".
The Launch ceremony of this nationwide youth campaign against terrorism was held at Mavalankar Hall, New Delhi, where Dr. M.S. Gill, (Hon'ble Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports) launched the campaign by releasing the logo. On this occasion Dr. Shakeel Ahamad Khan (Director General, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan), Priya Dutt (MP), Subodh Kant Sahay (Food Minister, Govt. of India), Sindhushree Khullar (Secy, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports) addressed the youths.
Hundreds of youth from across the country are joining hands in pledge to defeat the nefarious designs of those who would like to play with innocent lives and create a sense of despair. Together they have chalked out a national campaign - Youth for Peace to strengthen democratic, secular and pluralist character of our country. This nationwide campaign will start from the National Youth Day (January 12) upto Mahatma Gandhi's Martyrdom Day (January 30) and would be launched by the rural youth in 500 districts.
During the ceremony the youth lit the candles as a tribute to the Martyrs and they also participated in the signature campaign against terrorism.
While addressing the youth, Dr. M.S. Gill said that India has faced difficult times in the past also but the people of this country have always come out of it to prove that our unity & national integrity is strong and will last as it is forever.
Addressing the youth Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan appealed everyone to come together to defend freedom secured by the selfless hundreds and thousands of martyrs. He said the youth of India owe it to all those who laid their lives for us. He appealed to join hands in celebrating plurality and togetherness to strengthen freedom and democracy.
