Indi-pop has been a strongest part of our music industry and especially the Punjabi pop has played a vital role in making it so popular. Singers like Gurdas Mann, Daler Mehandi, Sukhbir, Bhuppi, Hans Raj Hans, Mika Singh, Harbhajan Mann & others have given it new highs and unlike these who have made the difference, upcoming singer Shampy Singh is ready to take it to new highs and with different ideas he just launched his second album 'Chardi Jawani'. Born in Ludhiana and a resident of national capital Delhi, Shampy is very passionate about his music and wants to remain as a learner so that he can serve the Punjabi Pop Industry for a long time. Before this he had an album named 'Jind' to his credit and its song 'Matke Waliye' created buzz amongst all the music & DJ lovers. Released by Saga Music 'Chardi Jawani' was launched recently at Hotel Palace Heights (Zaffaran) at Connaught Place, New Delhi, where we got the opportunity to talk to Shampy Singh here are some excerpts from the interview:
· How Delhi's hot boy Shampy Singh became Punjabi Pop Singer?
- My father Sardar Pritpal Singh had the passion for music and he used to play 'Tumbi', he inspired me to become a singer and because of his inspiration only I'm here.
· Your debut album 'Jind' was appreciated by the audience and now you have come with your new album after the gap of three years, what was the reason for this gap?
- Being a singer my aim is to provide good & solid music that can be listened for a long time and if you want to make an impact with your work you need to take proper time to do a lot of research according to the latest trend and audience like before finalising the things this was the only reason of this gap. During this span I have done the maximum research to make 'Chardi Jawani' happen.
· Tell us something about your new album Chardi Jawani.
- 'Chardi Jawani' is my second album. It is released by Saga Music and has 10 songs of different moods including two remix and four by my friend Lalit Baba. The lyrics have been penned by Sunny Kainth and music is created by Manpreet.
· Today music video is one of the most important aspects in album's success, so have you made any video?
- It's true that a song is incomplete without the video, it's very important though we have made the video of title song 'Chardi Jawani' which is on air, this is a UK style video featuring model Muskan alongside me. Apart from this second video 'Billori Ankhiyan' is ready and is dedicated to all the Punjabis.
· Which is your favourite song in the album?
- Although I love each and every song of the album but the song 'Tere Saha Utte' is very close to my heart and is my favourite.
· Whom do you like the most as a singer?
- Mika Singh is the best, he is my idol. His chemistry and passion towards music is ultimate, he is an all-rounder rather than a singer who always tries to give something new with sincere effort. As a performer he's awesome and I see him as a rock star because he has the intensity, the art, the magic to make audience crazy on his tunes as well as to set the stage on fire.
· What's special in your new album 'Chardi Jawani'? Will its song be able to re-create the magic what your song 'Matke Waliye' did?
- Every song has its own taste & magic and if you try to repeat the success sometime audience gets bored. 'Matke Waliye' had lots of masti whereas 'Chardi Jawani' has the feel of emotions of a guy after seeing a beautiful girl but still the craziness is there and I hope audience will like this & other songs.
· Today many talent hunts are there on various channels. What is your take on this?
- Needless to say this has been an excellent effort for the young talents but personally I think the winner of this kind of show takes all the limelight and those who remain second & third place get unnoticed. Although they get the opportunity & platform but through these talent hunts they lose the way which doesn't help our industry.
· Today everything is going the corporate way, so what's your strategy of getting success and limelight?
- Your efforts, hard work, complete dedication & research about audiences like-dislike are the basic fundamentals of getting success. Except these media and your PR exercise are very important in creating the right image in the society. If your PR is good and your project gets promoted in proper way it really helps because you can't reach the audience without the help of PR & media.
· Every pop singer wanted to be a playback singer as well, are you also doing the same?
- Every individual dreams to become an all-rounder and I think if you have variations and versatility in your singing you can create new highs and gets the opportunity to move ahead in the right direction. I want to do play back for movies if I get good songs. I have recently sung a song 'Chhora Jaat Ka' for a Hariyanavi movie. I have some offers from Bollywood but they haven't been finalised as yet.
· What do you mean by all-rounder?
- Through all-rounder I mean along with singing you must know the art of performing and if you can make audience singing & dancing to your tunes you are a rock star. The fact plays very important role while you perform in a live concert or a stage show.
· There are lots of talents in our country would you like to give any message for youngsters?
- Right now I'm very young and needs to learn a lot. To youngsters I would like to say that concentrate on your riyaaz & tonner quality and keep trying for the opportunity whether it's small or a big one. One of the most important things is that don't compromise with yourself or your art for attractive contests & talent shows.
