Abhay Sopori's Santoor Recital

Abhay Sopori's Santoor Recital @ the Annual Function of German Returnees Club of India... 

Recently the annual function of 'German Returnees Club of India' (GRCI) was organised at Embassy premises at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, where the Annual Souvenir of GRCI was released which was followed by the Santoor Recital of Santoor Maestro and Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori which left the guests mesmerised. The function was hosted by V.P. Verma (Chairman, GRCI).

The German Returnees Club of India is a wing of German Embassy in India that has around 40 members who are working for the betterment of Indo-German Friendship. On this occasion members of the club bid adieu to the present Ambassador to India Mr. Bernd Meutzelberg and also welcomed his successor.

Keeping in mind the entertainment and to introduce the magic of Indian Classical Music to its members the evening had the scintillating Santoor recital by youngest Santoor Maestro and Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, who started with Alaap-Jod in Rageshree Kaunce followed by a Bandish 'Ragan Ko Rang De' in Teen Taal, a Tarana 'O Dani Dani Nadir Din' and concluded his performance with a faster composition in Ati-drut Teen Taal. The guests gave overwhelming response to him and applauded his efforts. Abhay was accompanied by Ustad Rafiuddin Sabri on Tabla, Vipul Ray on Sur-Santoor and Ragini Rainu on Tanpura & Vocal.

During the programme Mr. Bernd Meutzelberg was the Chief Guest. On this occasion members of GRCI, V.P. Verma (Chairman), S.G. Parashar, D.D. Sharma, Dr. Ing N.K. Gupta, Bhaskar Chatterjee, Surendra Kumar, Chitra Chatterjee, J.K. Parashar, Pramod Behl and others were also present there.

On this occasion V.P. Verma welcomed all the members of German Returnees Club of India. He said The German Returnees Club of India is representing entire Germany though its origin has been from GDR. We have many members who have pursued academic career from erstwhile West Germany. I earnestly hope that more and more persons who have been to Germany either for training or for specialization or for academic pursuit will join us.

He said our club has roots in industries and academic fields all over India and therefore, can play a vital role in promoting trade and cooperation in MSME sector. We can also help in getting places for short vocational training for the German students in various fields of industry and education in different parts of India. It is our desire to have excellent relations with various German foundations and trade organisations. We are ready to offer our services to businessmen in the field of technical collaboration etc.

Abhay was pleased to perform at a function like this. He said It's an honour for me to perform here as it'll not only make the Indo-German relations better but at the same time our cultural heritage will also be shared and I hope these kind of programmes will play a vital role in strengthening the Indo-German friendship.

The annual function was followed by cocktail-dinner where each and everyone enjoyed the tasty food and cocktails.
