An Evening of Indian Classical Music

An evening made mesmerizing and beautiful by the purity of the melody of Shehnai by Sanjeev Shankar and Ashwani Shankar and vocal recital by Dhananjay Kaul was organised at India Habitat Centre on Sunday by Farseen Rubber Industries Limited and Spandan Communications. Padmashree Smt. Shovana Narayan added to the value of the event by her esteemed presence as the Chief Guest for the evening. M.S. Sathyu (renowned film and theatre director), Rashmi Malik, Rama Shankar Bajoria, Padma Bajoria, Sarit Das, Ustad Rehmat Khan Langa, Anjali Kaul, Shubhoday Bajoria and Neena Bajoria were amongst the guests present at the evening.

The concert started with the lighting of the lamp by Smt. Shovana Narayan and Smt. Padma Bajoria. The evening began with various ragas by Sanjeev and Ashwani Shankar and the melodies of their shehnai captured the senses of the audience and took them in a completely different world of music as they ended their performance with beautiful 'Raag Bhairavi'. They were accompanied on Tabla by Anand Shankar, Support Shehnai by Yogesh and Sur Shehnai by Alan Lutic.

The second half of the evening commenced with vocal recital by Dhananajay Kaul with the melodious Khayal in Puria Dhanashri followed by a Thumri in Mishra Shivranjri, and marked the end of the evening with Dadra in Bhairavi. The vocal recital was accompanied by Ghulam Ali on Sarangi, Vikram Patil on Tabla and Vivek & Rakesh Chandra on Tanpura.

Both the performers captured the mind of the audience with their spellbound music. The complete atmosphere was filled up with the divine power of the music spreading a positive aura throughout. Smt. Sadhna Shrivastava was the compere for the evening.

These kinds of concerts enable Delhiites to enjoy the best of Indian classical music and have an insight into traditional India. It gives people a chance to know the actual ethnic India, to know the treasure that India possesses unlike any other country of the world. Anshuman Pandey, organizer of the event said "The love for classical Music has not diminished in India, an Initiative to provide a proper platform is the need of the hour and this is one of our small steps towards that direction. Such platforms have consistently attracted large number of music lovers".
