If no then you have to as this time something happened at Jalandhar, Punjab, one of the most prominent cultural cities in India with Bhangra & Garba as its unique features, usually people here enjoy lots of drums and dhol beats for music at its best but this time they were seen enjoying the classical music with full enthusiasm and anticipation.

Occasion was "Raag Naad II" organised by Naad Navrang, where Sufi Diva Ragini Rainu and Santoor Maestro & Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori presented an evening of classical music. Both the artists were at the top of their skills and performed brilliantly to leave people mesmerized to their tunes....

The programme was started with some popular and new songs presented by Sufi Diva Ragini Rainu, followed by Santoor recital by Abhay Sopori. Abhay played Raga Nand Kauns starting with elaborated Aalap and Jod with nuances of Sopori Baaj – the Meend, Glides, Krintan, Taan Patterns, Chand Patterns and various complex rhythmic structures. The Jod was rendered in the typical Dhrupad Style with the accompaniment of Pakhawaj with Pandit Dalchand Sharma. Next came up Raga Jog with compositions in 11 beats. Abhay played various Chand Patterns with much ease demonstrating his skill and mastery over the Raga system and instrument Santoor. He also sang a composition in Teentaal – (Sajan More Ghar Aye and Tarana, O Dani Dani). Abhay concluded his recital with the lightning Jhalla. Abhay was accompanied on Tabla by Sh. Mithilesh Jha and Sh. Roshan Ali on Sur Santoor.

An Exhibition of Water Colour and Etchings... The exhibition will continue till 25th April at Studio Vasant, Vasant Vihar. Before commencing the exhibition here a special preview (on 12 April) at Studio Vasant and a four day exhibition (from 14 - 17 April) at newly build cultural hub, Epicentre at Gurgaon was also there.

During opening ceremony Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi, Vinod Nagpal, Victor Vijay Kumar, Baljit Chadha, Pankaj Mohan Agarwal, Dr. Gautam Vohra, Vinod Sharma, Madhumita Puri and P.K. Roy were also present there.

According to Graham Clarke all my etchings are produced entirely by hand using techniques dating back several hundreds years. I use copper plates which have to be shaped, bevelled and polished, then meticulously cleaned with ammonia and whiting.

The plate is "grounded" on a hot place using a mixture of bitumen and beeswax and this acidproof layer is smoked with tapers to darken it before drawing with the needle on the plate. I prefer not to have too exact an idea of the completed image, but to allow it to grow as I work from the brief drawings and notes in my sketchbooks, and ideas in my head. Small blemishes and errors can be corrected with "stopping out varnish".

To etch the initial 'line' stage of the image, I use "Dutch Mordant" (hydrochloric acid with additions) and usually commit the plate to the acid three or four times, adding or subtracting areas and details as required between each stage. The plate can then be cleaned off and the first proof taken.

Aquatint is employed to achieve areas of tone. Powdered resin is applied in an "aquatint box", the plate gently heated, the resin particles melt and adhere to the copper. Each stage is "stopped out" and etched in nitric acid - usually in about twelve separate stages - sometimes going beyond the expiry of the minute resin particles back to bare metal, and so to "open bite". On occasion, I use open bite in the more direct way. The plate can then be cleaned off and proofed again.

It is likely, and this is normally deliberate, that parts of the image will be far too dark, and four or five stages of scraping, burnishing, and proofing are required before the image is considered finished. Half a dozen more proofs are printed then the plate is "steel faced" to preserve its surface qualities. This in no way affects the image.

The edition can then be printed by Lawrence Jenkins who for many years printed at The Royal Academy. Following the hand printing, I plan, and mix in large quantities, the dozen or so hand applied colours that are used on each image or set of plates. When one example is ready my hand colouristBarbara Thirkell diligently works through the whole edition, taking the utmost care over a period of several months. As soon as the work is ready, I check, title, number, and sign each print, usually in batches of 20 or 30, until the edition is complete. The plate can then be "cancelled" in such a way that further printing would be impossible, thus ensuring the limitation of the edition forever.

"EK SHAAM BACHON KE NAAM" - An enchanting Musical evening for Children of Blind School by GLOBAL FOUNDATION!

Global Realty Group (GRVL) based at New Delhi is a prominent emerging player in the Real Estate Industry. There are certain people who born to make people laugh. Raju Srivastav is one among them. He was recently arrived in the capital at Pragati Maidan, where audiences giggled a lot. The programme was organised by Hindustan Builders to celebrate the launch of Mumbai -Nasik Highway plots. His gags spare no one – from MPs to union Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and film folk to precocious kids, ha – ha! Man Raju Srivastav takes on everyone in his stand – up acts. He created a riot on this live show and has audiences aching with laughter.

Raju is against the loud and vulgar comedy. His ideals in the comedy are Kishore Kumar in films and Jhony Lever on stage and his favourite actor is Amitabh Bachchan, The uniqueness of his jokes left the audiences speechless, the audiences were very much into listening him, that they even stopped laughing and ensured that they get each and every word of Raju Srivastav.

A comedy of manners typically takes as its subject a particular part of society (usually upper class society) and uses humor to parody or satirize the behaviour and mannerisms of its members. This can be seen in Raju Srivastav's all most all live performances.

Being a comedian is not an easy task because, the comedian has to scrutinize the society very closely in order to use each and every element, character, incident society in his comedy. Mr. Ajay Chawda, Managing Director of Hindustan said "I am very much happy to have Raju Srivastav on this auspicious occasion, where we launched our prestigious project at Mumbai-Nasik Highway.

Healing Through Yoga by Smt. Spearheading
the field will be India's best known women's professional Simi Mehra,
an LPGA player, besides the leading lights of Asia and the teen
brigade from the host country, India.
The venue is the lush DLF Golf and Country Club, which recently hosted
the world's best at the Johnnie Walker Classic.
Though India's own Simi Mehra, a long-time LPGA regular is hogging the
pre-tournament headlines, the likes of Phatlum Pornanong, one of the
rising stars of Thai and Asian women's golf and winner of this
season's first event, the Thailand Ladies Open, and Sunny Park, an
Australian of Korean origin, will be the others to watch out for.
Simi, once the longest hitter on the LPGA Tour, is slowly hitting her
form once again. She was tenth at the Thailand Ladies Open and after
the DLF Women's Indian Open, she plans to play on the LPGA where she
has a special exemption.
Simi said: "My confidence this time will definitely be on a high."
On her preparation Simi said: "I treat every event the same, so the
preparation I put for the Women's Indian Open will be the same as the
LPGA event. I am sure Indian players will make a big impact during
this event. I know I am capable of winning the event. I also feel the
chances of an Indian winning are very high. Even last year we had a
couple Indians in the top five, of which one being an amateur. This
year we have a stronger field from the quality of players
participating, so the results will be very interesting."
Thailand's prodigious talent Phatlum Pornanong, who won this year's
first event on the LAGT, The Thailand Open 2008, has also confirmed
for the field. Phatlum had announced her arrival with a win while
still being an amateur at the 2006 LAGT Hong Kong Open and has now
begun fulfill her promise.
Sunny Park, who turned professional, won Australian Women's Amateur
Open last year. Park started 2008 with a big bang as she captured the
Australian Ladies Professional Golf-sanctioned Kangaroo Valley Peugeot
Classic to register her first win as a professional.

Other leading internationals include the Japan-based Brazilian Iida
Maria Priscila, who played the World Cup in 2007, China's Wang Chun
represented her country in 2008, and the Japanese duo Shiraki Rie, a
champion at the 2007 Guam Governer's Cup in USA Guam, and Sakurai
Yuki, a rookie who was in 5th of 2008 MFS Womens Australian Open held
in January.
Apart from Simi, India's other big challenger will be the talented
Irina Brar, who was fourth last year. Irina, who has been straddling
academics and golf at the same time, is capable of upsetting the best
of players on her day. Other prominent Indian pros include Shalini
Malik. Parneeta Grewal and Vandana Aggarwal.
India's teen brigade includes Tanya Wadhwa, who trains in the United
States, Sharmila Nicollet, the All India amateur champion, and Meher
Atwal, is capable of bringing in some stunning results.
Interestingly Simi hinted that if there were any player other than her
who could surprise the field, it would be teenager Tanya Wadhwa. "I
feel that she has the game and maturity to win the Women's Indian
Open," she said.
The DLF Women's Indian Open, carrying a purse of US $ 120,000, has
grown in stature as one of the premier events on the Ladies Asian Golf
Tour (LAGT).

Anita Singhvi's New Ghazal Album "Zah-e-naseeb"

If we combined well Know composer Khayyam, Politicians and Ghazal singing under the one roof what will it means? Obviously a beautiful evening of music.

We are talking about the launch of Anita Singhvi's new album "Zah-e-Naseeb". Chief Guest was Hon'ble Home Minister Shivraj Patil. At this occasion he said that today's evening is for Anita Singhvi's performance and I don't want to say too much my best wishes with Anita Singhvi and legend like Khayyam Saheb for there new album.

At this occasion Farooq Sheikh said that people who are not very found of ghazals its means that they never fallen love. But I am very happy to see that many people came here to listen ghazals its shows that every body has a great heart.

This evening Aanita Singhvi's ghazals has forced people to stay and listen to her as she sang "aaj jane ki jid na karo", she also perform the title song "Zah-e-Naseeb" from the album.

Khayyam saheb said that Anita's voice is melodies and she is pretty also. It is an honor for BIG Music to release this album. Anita Ji's Ghazals and Khayyam Saheb's music has given us golden opportunity to come up with this kind of album.

Zah-e-Naseeb illustrates a tale of untold emotions through an embellishment of seven Ghazals penned by lyricists like Ahmed Wasi, Vijay Akela, Indira Verma and Daag Dehlvi. The velvety voice of Anita Singhvi glides over harmonies and chords composed by Khayyam with exquisite rhythm making the album an enthralling experience for music connoisseurs. This album is targeted at listeners, who not only crave for nostalgic melody of yesteryears, but more importantly for listeners who believe in the phrase, "Music is life, Music is everything"

In this evening various dignitaries also present were Farookh Abdulla, Ram Jethmalani, Tina Ambani, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Robert Vadra, Manu Abhishek Singhvi and many more.

"Historians have been unfair to Assam"- Lt. Gen (Retd.) S.K. Sinha, PVSM, His Excellency the Governor of Jammu & Kashmir on Assam's Glorious History as a part of Assam Association Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, where he remembered these quoted words which were spelled during his tenure of Assam's Governor at a seminar organized by Indian Council for Historical Research in the past.

Lt. Gen (Retd.) S.K. Sinha, The Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, also said in his lecture "that there is been a unique contribution of Assam in our country's development. I believe that India has three capitals one Delhi as its Political Capital, second Mumbai as its commercial capital and third Gauhati as its cultural capital".

"Historians have been unfair to Assam, they discussed about the Indus valley civilization, Kaveri Valley civilization, Gagus Valley civilization but they haven't discussed about the Brahmaputra valley civilization. Historians have discussed about warriors like Ranapratap and Shivaji prominently but, they have not discussed about the Military leaders from Assam. 'Lord Krishna' has a prominent importance in Indian Mythology there is nothing which is not widely known is that his wife Rukmini hails from Assam" He added.

"I feel very painful when I see separatists groups, especially Ulfa projects Assam as a separate state. My objective during my tenure as Governor of Assam was that I want people of Assam to be proud of them self and their past, and rest of the India to be proud of Assam. Entitled "India: Sensuality and Spirituality", the exhibition will continue till 31st January at Lalit Kala Akademi.

Before the inauguration for all the art lovers at Lalit Kala Akademi, a special preview of the same was also organised at Studio Vasant. On the occasion Ekathrina, Jan Nicolas Schuatt (Deputy Head of Regional Delegation for South Asia), Baljeet Chadha (Director Studio Vasant), Manmohan Chadha, Sudhakar Sharma, Uday Jain, Gyiebok Chae, Mihee Chot and many others were present there.

On this occasion Ekathrina said, "Unity" is the main concept of all my art. With every new project I go to different countries and try to discover new aspects of Unity in Duality.

When I came to India for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of women, their colorful robes, saris and jewelry, the spicy food, strong smells, inspiring music, chaotic traffic, tranquility of the meditation resorts and erotic sculptures in the Hindu temples.

I believe the way of life in Indian culture is connected very much to the body. Vegetarian food, training in yoga, breath exercises and seeing the Kama-Sutra as divine teaching of a way to enjoy life in all its richness are all tools to elevate the body by using the senses in a very controlled way. Over the centuries, the Indian people have been able to see the big picture of the Universe and connect it to their daily lives.

The Indian way can be interesting for other societies, especially those which separate the body and the spirit in grotesque ways. By forcing sensuality into the realms of unholy, western people, for example, suffer from anxiety, stress, dissatisfaction, aggression and fear.

In my photo-project "India: Sensuality and Spirituality" I am looking for balance and harmony between these seemingly opposite aspects. I want to inspire all civilizations to be open to the positivity and beauty of life.

On the occasion Baljeet Chadha was all praise for Ekathrina. He said, Ekaterina and her art saturated in the multicultural landscape of Europe, USA and Russia has brought to India a fresh and exhilarating artistic experience about India's sensuality and spirituality.

Commemoration of 60th Anniversary of Gandhi’s Martyrdom

On January 30, 2008, the 60th Martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, was organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, an autonomous body of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India at Mavalankar Hall, Rafi Marg, New Delhi. From a sport that for many years, had just one full-time professional – Simi Mehra, who played in the world-class Ladies PGA Tour in the United States – it has grown into a full-fledged circuit boasting of eight events of 3-4 days each and is still growing. With nearly Rs. 2 crores in prize money from various international and domestic events, golf has suddenly become the richest women's sport in India.

The flagship event of the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI), the body instrumental for the growth of women's pro golf, the DLF Women's Indian Open has grown in stature as one of the premier events on the Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LAGT). Carrying a purse of US $ 120,000, it attracts the best lady professional players from Asia.

To put the purse in perspective, the men's Indian Open did not exceed a purse of US $ 120,000 for over two decades, but the women's Indian Open has touched the figure in its second year.

"Indian women's golf has shown phenomenal growth in so short a time. From scratch we have a full-fledged women's domestic tour and now with international events like DLF Women's Indian Open and Ladies Masters, there are ample opportunities for our golfers," said Mrs. Kavita Singh, Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the DLF Women's Indian Open.

"I see a lot of youngsters coming up and taking to the sport. With big events like the DLF Women's Indian Open taking place regularly, they will be encouraged to take to the sport more seriously and make a career from playing the game," she added.

Mr. Satish Tandon, President of the WGAI, "We are grateful to DLF for their recommitment as the title sponsors. It is with the support of sponsors like DLF that women's golf has reached this position so quickly and is set to continue to grow in India. We thank DLF for their three year commitment to the DLF Womens Indian Open and to the DLF Women's Professional Tour"

"I am also happy to note the growing strength of the field with professionals from Europe and Japan showing interest and we also have promising Indian youngsters playing in the tournament", he added.

The success of India's men in International professional golf may have acted as the catalyst in the growth of professional women's golf in India, but there is no denying that the tour's growth has been phenomenal in approximately two years since the start of the tour by WGAI.

From, scratch, the Women's Golf Association of India has grown to twelve events with a minimum purse of Rs. 1.5 lakhs for each of them.

Even as the domestic Tour is taking baby steps, International Women's Golf too has arrived into India.

From the time Champika Sayal and her WGAI team worked to get a Skins Event with an International Star cast, India now has not only a strong domestic circuit but also two world class international events.

The growing interest was seen amply when the Ladies European Tour chose India as its venue for the Indian Masters in Bangalore in December 2007. The 200,000 Euro event saw the best of European women golfers come to India.

And now the same can be seen in US $ 120,000 DLF Women's Indian Open. The WGAI's plans received early backing from Mrs Kavita Singh of DLF – so that the dream of creating world class lady players from India quickly took shape with a three year corporate commitment of DLF for the domestic tour and the flagship DLF Womens Indian Open.

While US based Simi Mehra has been the star player helping the Tour grow, others like Irina Brar, who represented India at the World Cup last week alongside Simi, have also been a huge success. The fact that India was among the 18 countries invited for the World Cup in South Africa was proof that Indian women have been noticed internationally in a sport that was hardly popular in India two seasons ago.

Anjali Chopra, Parnita Grewal, Nitika Jadeja, Sanam Merchant, Pragya Mishra, Shalini Malik, Nonita Lall Qureshi, Seema Sobti, Sanniya Sharma, Urvashi Sodhi and Nalini Singh have been the other ladies who have joined the professional ranks.

In the years to come, there's much more to come as youngsters like 15 yr old Tanya Wadhwa, who has learnt and honed her golf skills in the US, 19 yr old reigning All India Amateur Champion Meghna Bal, also studying in the US, are showing great promise.

Youngsters Sharmila Nicollet, Shweta Galonde and Vaishavi Sinha who with Meghna wore Indian colours at Doha Asian Games and a host of other youngsters including Shweta Galande, Shruti Naik and Mehar Atwal have all shown great promise. They are the future that Women's Professional golf in India can look forward to.

Adeel -the musical heart throb from Pakistan with his new album “Koi Chehra”

"I would pass by a cliff, and want to jump off it like Amitabh Bachchan in Bollywood movies". Thus speaks Adeel, the musical heart throb from Pakistan, all set to hit the musical scene. And jumped off the cliff he has – from the comforts of a successful career in modeling, he has answered the divine call within to be a musician and has plunged into Muse to give the world a new voice.

"I always wanted to be musician – I simply had no other dream", says the stunningly handsome, charming 23 year old heart-stopper from Pakistan, who is all set to see his debut album 'Koi Chehra' being released internationally by Tips Industries on 20 th November.

Life has handed Adeel many options and avenues. Born into a highly educated and cultured family in Pakistan on 15 June 1984, his eldest brother is a doctor and his middle brother graduated from a leading Canadian university. "My father was very clear that education came first, and I was good in studies. God was kind to ensure that when, at the age of 8 I excelled in my school exams, Dad presented me a small keyboard, and there began my formal journey into a passionate relationship with music. I was soon a star in school, performing for all school shows. By the time I reached college, I had formed a band called 'Rooh' in Islamabad and we were committed and successful performers, not allowing music to come in the way of studies however."

On completion of his board exams, Adeel's father was very clear that he would become a doctor. Adeel's protests and entreaties that he wanted to take up music fell on deaf ears and soon the young handsome lad found himself studying dentistry at the prestigious King Edwards Medical College.

Fate however had willed otherwise for this child of destiny. Into his first year, his face was spotted by none less than the mighty Pepsi International. Climbing on to heap of contenders, he came out on top and was selected to be the Pepsi Brand Ambassador for Pakistan in 2003! The turning point brought him for the shooting of the advertisement to the city of his dreams – Bollywood!! "As a youngster I was completely besotted by Bollywood films. That was my destination – the ultimate Eastern citadel of the Dream Merchants. And the ad film was directed by none less than Prahlad Kakkar."

Adeel continued with Pepsi as their Brand Ambassador but did not let the allure of a modeling career deviate his mind from music. He refused lucrative offers, sticking only to Pepsi and in 2004 started working on his debut album, now to be released worldwide by Tips.

Adeel believes in Sufism and romance. Musically he believes in all world styles, is a devotee of the music of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, A.R.Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Singers Sonu Nigam and Enrique are his idols.

Koi Chehra is an expression from Adeel's soul. He connects to the aspirations of a young lad his age – connecting to people, to love, to life, joy and finally to the Maker. A beautiful fusion of feeling and philosophy emerges in the lyrical content. The music is stylish, energetic, young and fresh. Groovy yet vulnerable. Adeel. The heart stopper.

Indians express outrage at Harbhajan's ban, dubious umpiring

Indians express outrage at Harbhajan's ban, dubious umpiring
New Delhi/Jalandhar/Patna, Jan 7 (ANI): Cricket fans across the
country have expressed their outrage against the ban on Indian spinner
Harbhajan Singh for three Test matches.
Protesters in Patna staged a donkey-march venting their ire at Steve
Bucknor for a series of umpiring blunders at the second test between
India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
"The way it turned out, the decisions that were given and the manner
in which Ricky Ponting (Australian skipper) managed to get a decision
in his favour is disgusting. Also, the decision against Harbhajan
Singh is completely unwarranted and without any proof," said Ishwar
Chandra Srivastava, a protestor.
Former India players were united in criticising umpires -- Steve Bucknor and
Mark Benson -- whose mistakes, they said, helped Australia win.
India's greatest all-rounder Kapil Dev accused the hosts of failing to
show a sporting spirit.
Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, Harbhajan Singh's mother Avtar Kaur said that
she had faith in the Almighty that the things will improve.
"Whatever is happening is not good. He (Harbhajan) has been falsely
implicated," she added.
In New Delhi, cricket fans said that it was a totally unfair decision
and the issue needed to be addressed at the earliest.
Many felt that such dubious decisions have brought disrepute to the game.
"This is a black spot on the game of cricket," said Ram, a fan.
Earlier today, the Indian cricket board suspended its team's tour of
Australia pending the outcome of an appeal for spinner Harbhajan
Singh.
On Sunday, the ICC banned Harbhajan for three Test matches for alleged
racial remarks during the second Test between India and Australia.
The five-day match at the Sydney Cricket Ground was dogged by a series
of umpiring blunders that re-ignited the debate about whether the
match officials should be allowed to make greater use of technology to
ensure they make the right decisions.
Both teams were adversely affected by wrong calls, but the most
significant occurred on the first day when Andrew Symonds was given
not out by West Indian umpire Bucknor when the player edged a catch
behind.
India lost the match by 122 runs after their celebrated batting
line-up collapsed on the last day at the Sydney Cricket Ground but the
tourists said the umpires were to blame for the result. (ANI)
EARLIER:
ICC says umpires to stay, India's tour to Australia in jeopardy
Sydney, Jan. 7 (ANI): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said
that Test umpires Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson will continue to stand
in the third and fourth Australia-India Tests to be played at Perth
and Adelaide later this month, which could convince the Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to call off its tour of the
country in wake of the umpiring controversies in the just concluded
Sydney cricket Test.
The ICC said that it is yet to receive a formal complaint from the
BCCI on the umpiring issue, while the BCCI has said that it is
convening an emergency meeting of its working committee in New Delhi
on Tuesday evening to deliberate on the matter and the next course of
action. The BCCI has called for an immediate ban on the umpires and
demanded that the three Test ban on Harbhajan should be revoked.
Sachin Tendulkar has sent a SMS to BCCI president Sharad Pawar, saying
he was an eyewitness to the incident involving Harbhajan Singh and
Andrew Symonds and was present in the hearing in which the ban on
Harbhajan was imposed. He said the ban was unjustified.
The tour of Australia has been suspended till the ban on Harbhajan is
lifted, the BCCI said in a statement today. "The Board will appeal to
the International Cricket Council to review the decision of the Match
Referee and suspend its operation till the appeal is disposed of," the
BCCI said in a statement released on Monday.
BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla said that Harbhajan had complete
support of his teammates as well as the BCCI. He further confirmed
that the board has demanded the removal of Bucknor and Benson from all
future matches involving India.
The board's chief administrative officer,Professor Ratnakar Shetty,
has said that all rules and provisions would be kept in mind before
deciding the future course of the tour and no decision would be taken
on public emotions and reactions.
He also made it clear that first Harbhajan Singh would have to file a
complaint and subsequently, the board would follow suit.
Even umpires officiating in the match had testified that no such
comments were passed by the Indian offie. Earlier, Team India had
leveled serious allegations against off spinner Brad Hogg. Team India
reportedly complained of Hogg as he used abusive words against some of
the Indian players. While ICC's hearing to settle Harbhajan- Symonds
row was underway ICC role has come under scanner from cricket fans
across the globe.
Mike Proctor will hear fresh charges against Hogg on January 7. (ANI)

EARLIER
India risks a 2.3 million dollar fine for suspending its cricket tour
of Australia
Melbourne, Jan.7 (ANI): India risks paying a 2.3 million dollar fine
for suspending its cricket tour of Australia, and this has probably
led the Board of Control for Cricket in India to order the Indian team
to remain in Sydney, rather that travel to Canberra as scheduled,
pending the outcome of an appeal against Harbhajan Singh's three-Test
suspension for racially abusing Andrew Symonds.
BCCI bigwigs are meeting in New Delhi tomorrow to determine the next
course of action.
Under ICC rules, member countries are obliged to fulfil their tour
contracts except when the security of the players is at risk or the
touring team's government orders that the tour should not proceed.
India could also be liable to reimburse Cricket Australia for any
losses incurred.
Relations between the two sides reached a new low after Australia
retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by snatching a last-minute victory
in the second Test on Sunday night.
The Indian players and management were incensed by the poor standard
of umpiring, most of which favoured the home team, and Indian captain
Anil Kumble revived echoes of the Bodyline controversy when he accused
the Australians of not playing in the spirit of the game.
The BCCI today issued an indignant statement deploring the slur cast
on Harbhajan and the Indian nation.
"Unfair allegation of racism against our Indian player is wholly
unacceptable," The Australian quoted BCCI president Sharad Pawar, who
is also a senior government minister, as saying.
"The game of cricket is paramount, but so too is the honour of India's
cricket team and every Indian.
"The BCCI is committed to protect the country's fair name.
